Most people in the market for this type of lighting have security concerns as a primary motivation for implementing this integral component of a home security system. This landscape lighting component is typically used to illuminate outdoor pathways, front porch lights, fences, gates, stairwells and driveways as a deterrence against crime, theft and other feared mischief.

Motion sensor outdoor lighting works off a pretty simple premise: the fixtures turn on when motion is detected (sensed) and turn themselves off after a fixed period of time. In order for the sensor to turn on, an object merely needs to move through the signal of the sensor. Once this occurs, the signal emitted from the fixture reflects back to the sensor, thereby turning the light on.Pre-wired outdoor lighting kits are available at most home-improvement stores that make the installation process a fairly simple do-it-yourself project. Many of these motion sensor outdoor lighting systems also contain a feature that allows the user to manually operate the fixtures. Most fixtures accept flood light or halogen bulbs, both of which are widely available at home super-stores and inexpensive to replace. You can even find solar powered lights for motion sensor outdoor lighting.

What all this means is that incorporating motion sensor lights into an overall home security system can be a rather cost-effective way to ensure light is always available in strategically mapped areas of the property.

Types of Motion Sensor Lights

Motion sensors come in 2 main varieties – active and passive sensors. The majority of lights used in an outdoor lighting system employ a passive sensor to detect motion.

(i) Active sensors – work by emitting energy (i.e. light, microwaves or sound) into the environment for the purpose of detecting movement within its field of range. When an object comes into range of this energy emission, the energy is reflected back, triggering a response. The response ranges from setting off an alarm, turning on lights to opening an automatic door.

The most common example of where an active sensor is employed is in the opening and closing of garage doors. When a body or vehicle enters/breaks/interrupts the beam emitted by the sensor, the door will either open or close. If a body enters the sensor’s range when the door is coming down, the door will automatically reverse its course.

(ii) Passive sensors – or Passive Infrared Sensors (PIR), work by detecting infrared energy (infra refers to being below a human’s ability to visually sense, and red refers to the lowest color humans can see). More specifically, passive sensors detect abrupt changes of infrared energy and measure the wavelengths of these changes in micrometers. The human skin emits infrared energy in the 9-10 micrometer range. So most motion sensor lights implemented in landscape lighting systems are set to bracket this range.

Just make sure the detection threshold is not set at too low of a number. Should this happen, you may find yourself with lights that turn themselves on by the appearance of cats, raccoons and other small animals. Day temperature and wind-blown branches and debris can also trigger the sensor’s response should the detection threshold be set too low.

What passive infrared sensors actually measure is a change of temperature within its field of range. The average human skin temperature is roughly 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 degrees Celsius). When a person passes through the sensor’s energy field, his or her body temperature is generally higher than that of any other object within its range. This change in temperature is what triggers the response of the detector. For this reason, sensors should not be placed near a venting system. Hot air from vents and cold air from air conditioning can cause the sensors to detect a change in temperature and produce the undesired response of turning the light on.

Installation Tips

As stated above, the installation of motion sensor outdoor lighting can be a do-it-yourself project. If this happens to be one of your first home-improvement projects, or your first time working with outside lights, there a few simple, but important key points to understand.

If your outdoor lighting kit requires to be hooked up to a power source, it’s imperative to shut down the part of the fuse box that controls power to the area you will be working in. To make things even safer, seriously consider turning off power to the whole house and either locking the fuse box or covering it with masking or electrical tape (with instructions to leave the power off) to prevent it from accidentally being turned back on by someone else in the house.

Once you know that you are safe-guarded against the misfortune of electrocution, you can move on to the important matter of where to position the fixtures. In addition to keeping the fixtures away from air vents, they should be positioned facing away from windows (sunlight reflecting from the windows can trigger the sensor’s response).

Make sure the fixture’s openings are securely fastened to prevent air currents or bugs from entering the sensor area and triggering an unwelcome response. On top of all this, make sure the area covered by the passive infrared sensors corresponds to the actual area it covers.

The typical pillow form comes in either a square or rectangle shape. So you are probably surprised and maybe a little confused when you come across a triangle pillow. Thinking to yourself-What is it used for? Is a Thai triangle pillow the same? Where might I get a triangle pillow form? Don’t let all these thoughts on a this type pillow scare you away from branching out from that regular pillow form.

It just so happens these pillows are quite popular in the realm of décor. They are the newest member to the pillow clan along with the sphere and cube pillow forms. They can spruce up any arrangement of throw pillows with the addition of whichever creative pillow cover you are feeling. If a set of pillows is really in the need of some sprucing up, try adding beads or tassels to the three corners of the pillow. That will for sure catch people’s eyes and add just the right amount of exotic flare to your room.If home décor isn’t really the main concern at this point in your life, looking more for practicality, well you will still be satisfied with the addition of a triangle pillow to your home. They are perfect for a child’s playroom or a teenager’s dorm room. The fun geometric shape makes for a great cushiony toy for the toddlers or an edgy design for the teenagers dorm. Plain and simple, you will be adding a little spunk to the typical pillow shape.

Then there is this idea of the Thai triangle pillow which is much different than the type of triangle pillow form we have been talking about. It is used throughout Thai homes as an alternative form of seating when space is limited or merely decoration when not in use. The pillow forms are designed to be bent into different positions depending on the preference of each individual. Do they want to recline? Or do they want to sit straight? They are often used at a meal when sitting at a low table. Many retailers now carry a Thai Triangle style cushion.

Obviously the simple triangle shape pillow and the Thai pillow have similarities such as the choice of different sizes, unlimited possibilities for the colors and designs, and ultimately the versatility of such a unique pillow.

Finding a triangle pillow insert form already made is extremely hard as it is not a common size used in home décor. Luckily DOWNLITE carries triangle pillow forms in 3 sizes perfect to suit your needs. Not only do they carry triangles but they have other novelty shapes including sphere balls and cubes. So the next time you need to decorate your couch try some novelty styles which are sure to start a conversation.

Timeless beauty, clean lines, strength and durability as well as the ease of cleaning and the classic look make hardwood flooring the perfect choice for your home. No matter what your personal style is, there is a flooring choice for you because of the unlimited selection available. But before you rush out shopping for your hardwood flooring, keep these tips in mind.

Hardwood floors have become one of the most popular features that new buyers look for in a home. Make the best choice for your budget and home at the same time! Set a budget for yourself. Having a wide variety of flooring to choose from is great, but the downside is that it is easy to get overwhelmed quickly, and this makes you very susceptible to overspending. Remember to balance the style and quality with your budget when you make your final choice. You will be wise to match the room with your choice of flooring, whether hardwood or otherwise. For example, do not try to put hardwood flooring in a bathroom, due to the high levels of moisture a bathroom receives.Hardwood is among the most efficient and cosmopolitan flooring materials for homes. Different areas of the house demand different types of wood. For example, wood floors that have very light or very dark finishes typically do not fare well in the kitchen. Choose a hardwood flooring that has an appropriate finish to match your lifestyle. A sitting room that is seldom used will let you get away with a lighter finish. However a hallway or living room will get continual traffic and requires a choice that offers a tougher finish that can stand up to a lot of wear and tear.

Curtains are materials that are hung over a window for decoration and other purposes. The main purposes are to provide privacy, block sunlight and decoration.

If the window looks onto streets or sidewalks, then curtains can be used for privacy. Translucent curtains like net curtains or sheer curtains will only block sunlight partially. These types of curtains do not provide any privacy, especially at night. For privacy opaque curtains are better.

Curtains are also used for light control to prevent glare, for sleeping during the day, or watching TV etc. Opaque curtains are suited for light control. For partial light control sheer or net type curtains are better suited.

Curtains are also used for increasing the aesthetic appeal of a room. An elegant curtain greatly increases the aesthetics of a room and gives an opulent look. On the contrary dirty or ill matched curtains give a room a gloomy look. When the window looks onto a street it is better to give thought to the underside of the curtain as the curtain can be seen from outside and will dictate the appearance of the house.Types of Curtain

There are lots of varieties of curtains available in the market today. Few of them are:

Curtain Valance. These have deep frill fabrics framing the window and usually the curtain rod is hidden. They generally have pleated heading. The pleated headings can be decorated using braid, ribbons, tassels and trimmings.

Cascade Curtains. Cascaded curtains consist of two or more curtains hung over the window. The tiers are hung from transoms.

Shirred curtains. These types of curtains have the fabric threaded through curtain rods at the top and bottom.

Tie back curtains. These curtains are gathered at the sides of the window and decoratively tied back at the lower part of the curtain with a sleeve or cord.

Café curtains. These are designed to cover only half of the window and are stationary. They are usually used in kitchens and bathrooms for privacy and are made form scalloped headings.

Pelmets. Pelmets are structures mounted above the windows on which the curtain rod is fixed.

The choice of curtains depends on the purpose for which the curtains are being installed. Color, fabric and style of curtain give the room a formal or informal appearance. There are lots of decorative rods, pelmets, cording, sleeves, beads, fringes, rings, eyelets available in the market to decorate curtains. Also a thought should be given on safety for floor length curtains when pets and children are present in the house.

Whenever you are looking to decorate with tapestries you are going to need to make sure that you are able to do it easily and right. A lot of people will purchase oil paintings and tapestries because they like the look of them without even thinking of where they will put them. It is best if you have an idea of what you want and what you are looking for before you even begin looking for the right tapestry for your home. You will find that the more prepared you are and the more work you put into looking, the better of a result you will end up getting. You want for your tapestry to go with the rest of your home and complement your décor.

Décor

Your décor is what you should think of first and foremost whenever you are considering a tapestry. You will find that the best way for you to be able to do this is think of what will best go with it. Think about if you want something that will complement the colors or the themes of your décor. You can go from there. A lot of people will want to choose based on the colors of their current décor. This will work as long as you know that these colors will be around for a long time to come. If you like to redecorate often, then you should consider going with something that is neutral in color and can therefore go with a lot. This is will especially come in handy if you like to decorate with difficult to match colors.

Preparation

You need to make sure that you know what to look for when you get there. This means some preparation will be in order. You need to first find an area where you want to have your tapestry and then measure it. It can be really easy for you to go with a tapestry that is much too big for the area that you have. This can make it difficult to find space or to even be able to fully appreciate it.

However, if you go with one that is too small, then it can easily be overlooked and ignored. This will of course defeat the purpose of you having the tapestry. Think about how large you want it to be versus how much space you have to give then go from there.

Themes

If you enjoy themes in your home, then this is what you should go with. Whenever you are picking art out for your home you should think about the different types of themes that you currently have already. You can go with an outdoor countryside feel or even floral arrangements. Some people prefer to go with oil paintings and tapestries made by a specific artist or tapestries that have specific scenes. Think of what will look best in your home and most importantly, what will be something that you never get tired of looking at. This will help with your decision.
